Following yesterdays ascent to heaven - a heaven where my 4 dozen year old body returned to a freer, more carefree, quiet state of being - I realized something completely different about my menopause and aging experience.
I’m making it harder.
Instead of listening to the clear messages that my very communicative body sends me constantly - like the good communicative friend it is - I ignore it.
Take this message: I need to stretch - perhaps not said in so many words but clearly stated by the sensation of pain and stiffness in my shoulders, neck and lower back. It doesn’t matter a speck that up until this point in time, I could work at my computer for hours without stretching. That was then.
This is now. Now my body gets tired from the repetition of movement, poor posture and hour upon hour of relentlessness. It wants to stretch. This is a simple, reasonable request by a valued friend - my body.
Instead, my mind claims that I must soldier on, get the job done, resist such silliness - keep my snout to the grindstone. The reasons come to me in capitals. YOU WILL FAIL IF YOU STOP FOR ANY REASON! YOU MUST NOT SURRENDER OR LIFE WILL CEASE AS YOU KNOW IT! YOUR CAREER IS DEPENDENT ON HAVING THIS BLOG POSTED BY 3:15!
As you can see, my mind is a drama queen.
Today - which is the new today that follows on the heels of the old yesterday when I was not listening to my less young body - offers me a different perspective. I listen to the dire warnings of my mind - then switch channels to my body. It is painfully obvious who is full of crappola and who deserves my attention.
I put the computer on sleep and do some long, easy stretches.
And what do you know. This blog posting is still happening and I’m still alive.
